To the Editor:
Dear Madam Chair:
The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee requests your continued support in preserving the tax credit for Maryland-mined coal.
Coal has a rich history in Allegany and Garrett counties.
Unlike any other area of the state, the immediate repeal of tax credits allowed for the purchase of Maryland-mined coal would have a direct effect on Western Maryland.
Companies with a long history and strong pride have spent time and effort negotiating and signing contracts based on the legislation already in place.
Allegany and Garrett companies affected by this repeal, if unable to absorb these losses, will inevitably need to eliminate jobs. The immediate repeal will have harsh economic consequences for the farthest reaching counties of the state.
We urge you to allow the coal tax credit for the purchase of Maryland-mined coal to remain in effect for its duration.
Thank you for your consideration.
E. William DuVall II, legislative
