What does July Fourth, 2013, mark?

As we Americans celebrate the 237th anniversary of gaining our independence, the irony strikes me that we have never been closer to losing it. So, what is there to celebrate?

Oh, there will be fireworks and “patriotic” music. You’ll hear a few speeches, maybe even one from our president. All of it will ring hollow to many of us.

Our independence is on life support and our Constitution has been undermined time and time again by the liberal left, which is “running” our country.

In 2008, warnings rang out from many, as to what would happen if this group gained control. A clear picture was painted on these pages, of the great power grab that awaited us. The result was four years of government spending in unheard of proportions through, among other things, a stimulus package that we were told, was going to provide shovel-ready jobs. What it provided was an opportunity for the government machine to buy votes. Our debt stands at $17,000,000,000,000.

This was all according to plan. Amazing as it may sound, their first four years were nothing more than an extension of the 2008 campaign, with the president traveling everywhere making speeches. The design was to divert America’s attention to the real problems facing us and, furthermore, to remove his being associated with those problems!

This president did not and does not govern … he campaigns. This president took an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; so help him, God. This requires something more than making speeches.

What is even more amazing is that the people bought all of it! And, this president, who did nothing to solve the country’s ills except expand government and create more problems was somehow, some way, re-elected! It begs the question, “Do the American people care what happens to them?”

Since then, they have accelerated, with the assistance of a corrupt media, their drive to achieve their goal: Government domination over us. They always employ the leftist strategy: “Use the guise of ‘helping the poor and downtrodden’ to gain power.” In reality, they could care less about these people. It’s about power.

Actually, it’s all the result of decades of shrewd planning, dating back to Theodore Roosevelt. Liberals/progressives knew they needed to make subtle changes. What better place to start than with our children? They tweaked our educational curriculum to remove American history, especially as it relates to our founding; to get God out of our schools, and to introduce more socialist friendly courses. They also fostered environmental concerns, like “global-warming,” which, when it was not proven, they re-named “climate change.”

By grabbing control of these facets of our culture, and many others, they exercised their power on a broad spectrum, and injected government into our lives in areas where they have no constitutional right to do so. Give them credit, they have done a masterful job. They have successfully undermined American traditions, staffed the Supreme Court to their liking, and begun to tighten the noose around our independence and our Constitution.

Witness the conduct of the IRS, the NSA and the Justice Department ... Big Brother is certainly watching us … but don’t blame the president! Even though they report to him and are his responsibility … he had no knowledge of it. There has been discussion lately about the word, “freedom.” It goes both ways. Freedom can mean the freedom to do something, but also freedom from having something done to you. Remember that.

Independence Day 1776, marked the start of our victory over a tyrannical form of government. What does July Fourth, 2013, mark?

God certainly orchestrates circumstances that cause us to marvel. The recent flood In Cresaptown that Calvary Baptist Church/School endured is proving to be yet another miracle birthed out of devastation.

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”
