More Bibles being sought for American troops in Afghanistan

Dr. Cecil Todd, president of Revival Fires Ministry in Branson, Mo., has announced a request for 25,000 more Bibles to give to our troops fighting valiantly serving in harm's way in Afghanistan.

Col. James J. Puchy, Chaplain, Ret., executive director Armed Services Ministry, in a recent letter to President Todd, said, “Your overwhelming investment and your incredible support has enabled us to provide Bibles for 225,000 men and women in our armed services ... who are defending our freedoms.

“Today, we have 68,000 American men and women serving in Afghanistan! They put their life on the line daily to defend the freedoms we enjoy each day here in the U.S.!

“I can never describe to you the horrors of war, nor the healing power of God’s Holy Word! During war, these young men and women need something lasting to believe in and to hold on to...that something is God's word.

“Dr. Todd, you and your partners are making a real difference! That's why I come boldly, pleading with you to provide 25,000 more bibles, to give to our troops, valiantly serving in harm's way in Afghanistan.”

Chaplain Puchy has served for many years as a chief chaplain at the Pentagon.

The Bibles cost $4 each to print. They are then air-lifted by military transport straight to our troops, serving in Afghanistan. This guarantees their delivery!

Dr. Todd said to share this urgent call for Bibles with your Sunday school classes, ladies prayer groups, prayer breakfast, your missions committee, your youth groups, etc. (Ask for a special offering!)

We must not let our troops down..they are waiting for their Bibles!

He said, “This Bible need is very critical.” This exciting opportunity to provide Bibles for our troops is a ‘God-Thing!’ They are doing their part — Now —it is time for us to do ours! Thank you, C.T.”

The tri-state area supplied 1,496 Bibles at a cost of $5,984.15 in 2012. That was a record year for area supporters and $335 was received Jan. 11 to May 9 unsolicited.

I am very proud of the manner area supporters have supported this critical need for the troops in Afghanistan and of the $31,811.15 that has been received from 2004-2012. This provided 7,953 Bibles for RFM.

This is the first request this year and is very timely with the Fourth of July observance approaching.

The following churches and organizations have been consistent contributors over the past nine years:

Living Word Lutheran, Melvin UMC Missions, United Methodist Women — Barton and UMW Park Place, Emmanuel Bethel UM Women, First Church of Brethren — Frostburg, Olivers Grove UMC, Lahamansville UMC, UM Women Mount Savage, and Burlington Ruritan Club.

As a local representative of RFM, I have set a goal of $2,000 by the Fourth of July. Tax-deductible checks should be made to Revival Fires Ministry and mailed to Jimmie Flanagan, 10409 Witt Lane SW, LaVale, MD 21502.
