State of the Union address was nothing but smoke and mirrors

Tuesday night I tuned into the State of the Union address. It was nothing more than a three-ring circus. The actions of Barack Obama and Congress remind you of clowns under the Big Top.

Obama was center stage telling the country what he plans to do, and demanding Congress to follow his orders. It’s crystal clear this is a President and Congress that will continue to ignore the Constitution and the American people.

Barack Obama told many eye-popping statements. I don’t have the time for all of them in this letter, but I will detail some of them. He touted that things are getting better and the economy is improving.

I shook my head when he stated this because on Barack Obama’s watch we have added $7 trillion to the debt, and the national debt now stands at $17.3 trillion. Unemployment is through the roof, and the welfare state is at an all time high. He can fool some, but he can’t fool everyone.

Obama then went on to say “The debate is settled. Climate change is a fact.” Obama might be able to fool some, but he can’t fool everyone. Climate change is real, it’s called winter, spring, summer, and fall. Man cannot change the weather, only God can do that.

Later, he went on to proclaim his support for women’s rights. He said, “Women deserve equal pay for equal work.” Conveniently, he didn’t mention that women are paid less than men in his Administration.

He didn’t mention that he destroys women’s rights by supporting the killing of children through abortion. Again, he can fool some, but he can’t fool everyone.

As I expected, Obama did not speak a word about Benghazi. Four Americans were murdered at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, including our own ambassador. It’s closing in on two years since the attacks and still nobody has been brought to justice. This didn’t fit Obama’s political agenda, so it never made it into his speech.

Many times during the SOTU, Obama repeatedly told Congress he’ll take steps without legislation, and he’ll act on his own without Congress. He demanded Congress to put bills on his desk for him to sign. He told Congress, “We need to get this done.”

Acting more as a dictator or king, he declared he will go around Congress and defy the Constitution. I was left shaking my head again because when he said that, the Democrats stood up and cheered.  Obama knows with the lame-stream media on his side he can do anything and never be held accountable.

Obama also said the U.S. is the No. 1 place in the world to invest. However, he left out that the U.S. has continually declined and has fallen to 12th in economic freedom. Taxes, debt, and government intrusion have led to this decline.

Ironically, everything that has brought about the decline is what Obama wants more of. Ronald Reagan once said “Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.” Obama believes the opposite. He believes government is the solution to every problem.

All in all, the State of the Union was a circus that would make Barnum and Bailey envious. It was all smoke and mirrors.

  • President and Obamacare: Who needs Congress?

Being a fellow from a small town like Cumberland I don’t always really understand what’s going on in Washington. But I have watched a few houses being built over the years. I even helped some with one house, but my brother fired me from that work pretty quickly, mainly because it was his house being built.

  • It’s a secret It’s a secret

Could someone enlighten us about why not even the names of the two entities bidding on development of the Footer Dye Works building can be divulged?
A Times-News article about the bids included an explanation from a lawyer for the attorney general’s office about the need to keep the names and other information secret at this time. Despite that, the logic of not divulging at least a little more information escapes us.
