Firefighters came to help when he fell from his wheelchair

As a person that has Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy, I wanted to take the time to thank the people of the Cumberland Fire Department for lifting me back into my wheelchair last month.

I was in the parking lot of JFK Apartments making my way towards my truck when a large rock made my wheelchair come to a sudden stop and the inertia caused me to fall out of it.

Incidentally, members of the fire department were at the time collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This has been a practice of the fire fighter’s labor union, the IAFF, since 1954.

I would like to take the opportunity to extend my thanks for their longstanding partnership with the MDA as well.

Our city is very fortunate to have a fire department of such caliber.

Albert Keener
