To the Editor:
We the People of Hampshire County had their bi-monthly meeting recently at the Bank of Romney Community Center.
Terry Craver talked about the sovereignty of West Virginia and all states in America.
The citizens have been lured in to thinking that the federal government had unlimited power, but the fact is the federal government’s power is very limited under the U.S. Constitution.
The only power the federal government has is spelled out in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution, and the 10th Amendment says all other power resides in the states and ultimately with “We, the People.”
The Supreme Court ruled in Printz v. United States (95-1478, 521 U.S. 898 — 1997) that the federal government cannot tell the states what to do and thus up held the 10th Amendment.
So if the federal government cannot tell the states what to do then agencies of the federal government like the EPA, FDA, ATF etc., cannot tell the states what to do, or implement unconstitutional law like firearms bans.
It is time the West Virginia state government stands up and tells the federal government we are taking back the power granted and guaranteed to the states under the Constitution of the United States of America and it is time for “We, the People” the employers of our state and federal representatives, to stand up and say we want, no we demand our sovereignty back.
