To the Editor:
ObamaCare! Of all the terms the GOP uses as scare tactics, that one is my favorite.
In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, when Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the American people over the radio about the reality that we were declaring war on Japan, he said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
President Roosevelt was a Democrat and the only president to serve more than two terms in the White House.
Here’s my own experience with what you all call ObamaCare.
In the summer of 1964 I left Frostburg and came to northern Virginia to begin a career/adventure with the CIA. The first few weeks were devoted to orientation and processing. They explained the retirement package, life insurance and health insurance. I was 24, Mr. Obama was 1 year old.
Thirty years later I retired. I retired under a private package called CIARDS, not Social Security. My health care plan is not Medicare, it’s a private plan called Compass Rose!
Trust me, it’s health care to die for. And my congressman has an even greater package just like your congressman does.
Ten years later my wife retired from the agency. And although together we have an ample retirement package, we have no illusion that our health care plan is what’s keeping us from financial ruin. It’s the most lucrative benefit we earned and we didn’t even realize it at the time.
You might want to think about something: your Bible. Jesus said to bring him your sick and your lame. There was no mention of insurance plans or pre-existing conditions, etc.
Have you ever considered calling that Jesus-care?
