Good entertainment coming in schools’ theater productions

Every year about this time through mid-May, our local schools put on their spring theater productions. This year by coincidence, several of them are on the exact same days. The good news is that with careful planning, you should be able to see them all.

Beginning March 27 through March 30 you have the following to choose from:

The Cumberland Theatre Teens production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar”; (The CT Teens were formed three years ago, comprised of teens ages 13 through 19 from the Tri-State area bonding students from several regional schools and home schooling into one unified production); Potomac State’s “Les Miserables” also by Andrew Lloyd Webber; Mountain Ridge High School’s “Crazy for You”, and Bishop Walsh’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Your attendance shows support for our local talented young people who love to entertain you.

Also coming soon are the Maryland Theatre Arts production of “Jungle Book” April 4-6 at the Cumberland Theatre, Allegany High School’s musical “A Little Princess” April 10-13, and Fort Hill’s “Cinderella” April 24-27.

  • Remember, we’re not immune to extinction

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”

Without our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, where would America be today? It is anyone’s guess, however certainly not the Freedom and Liberty we enjoy.

  • Move over Move over

Have you noticed, in your travels, that the front end of a police cruiser usually protrudes a bit more than you would expect when the officer has it parked behind another vehicle on the side of the road?

An open letter to the electrical power companies in West Virginia and Maryland:
The return of electrical power to my home recently, after its unexpected failure for approximately 48 hours, as a result of such a sudden and violent storm, reminded me anew of how much I take for granted.

  • Scare tactics, misinformation abound regarding marijuana

In response to Frank J. Clark’s well intentioned letter, “Don’t be too quick to legalize marijuana use,” July 10 Times-News), I believe that his letter misses the point of legalizing and regulating marijuana.
