Most of America’s laws truly are based upon morality

It seems at least one of our Supreme Court justices, Elena Kagan, is leaning towards throwing out the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) because one of the reasons for its adoption was “to express moral disapproval of homosexuality.”

This seems to be the way our country is headed: to eliminate all references to morality. This is evidenced by the acceptance of homosexual marriages, abortion, sex outside of marriage, etc.

Can’t people see what a slippery slope we are entering by this attitude? The old adage that “you can’t legislate morality” is hogwash. Nearly all our laws, with the possible exception of traffic and tax laws, are based on morality.

When we divorce morality from all our laws, what happens when pedophiles want equal rights?

Or murders, or robbers, or rapists? It is time we admit that there is such a thing as right and wrong.

If you can’t figure out the difference between right and wrong, we have a book that will help.

It is called the Bible. Some of the punishments proposed there may not be appropriate for this age (stoning for adultery) but what is right and what is wrong do not change with time.

Now if we can only get our judges to see that.

  • Remember, we’re not immune to extinction

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”

Without our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, where would America be today? It is anyone’s guess, however certainly not the Freedom and Liberty we enjoy.

Have you noticed, in your travels, that the front end of a police cruiser usually protrudes a bit more than you would expect when the officer has it parked behind another vehicle on the side of the road?

An open letter to the electrical power companies in West Virginia and Maryland:

In response to Frank J. Clark’s well intentioned letter, “Don’t be too quick to legalize marijuana use,” July 10 Times-News), I believe that his letter misses the point of legalizing and regulating marijuana.
