Maryland Marriage Alliance thanks voters for support

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

— The Maryland Marriage Alliance wishes to thank the faithful churches and supporters who gave sacrificially to defend marriage in Western Maryland. Your help sent a message to many that we believe what God said about marriage being established as a man and a woman. Public opinion will never change what God says on the subject.

Thank you to the 61,684 people who defended traditional marriage in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties. Your voice was heard loud and clear. Even though the Civil Marriage Protection act (HB438) was passed into law and the citizens of the state supported it by 52 percent to 48 percent vote, Christians across the state will still believe God never changes and His definition of the family will never change no matter how our state votes. Who are we to redefine what God has said clearly in His Word?

We will still love people regardless of their choices and believe God can change lives and change our state and nation. We know the power of the message of salvation is greater than any political argument and that government is established by God (Romans 13). Therefore we will carry the truth of the message of Christ for all people in our state. Jesus died for all. Jesus rose from the grave to give us victory over death. We will not be deterred by votes or polls.

Our vision is clear and our mission is purposeful. People need the Lord Jesus now more than ever. May God help churches to be energized to carry the Gospel to every person in their community. Its time to be clear with our message of hope for our families. Thank you for your support over the last six months defending families in this cause. You will be rewarded one day.

“Jesus said, If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed: And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
