Northern Garrett Rescue Squad raising funds, seeks members

— The Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad recently conducted several fund raising events to raise funds for new Lifepak 15’s, which are EKG monitors with AED / defibrillator.

These lifesaving pieces of equipment are necessary to monitor EKG rhythms on patients with cardiac emergencies.

Even though the rescue squad has placed three of these units in service in recent years, it’s mandated by the state to have all ambulance / chase units equipped with Lifepak 15’s by Dec. 31, 2014.

Various events are taking place each month within the first due service area of the rescue squad.

The next event is a cash bash planned for July 19 at the Avilton Community Building from 4 to 10 p.m. There are still some tickets available for this event. There will also be a dessert auction, Chinese auctions, and 50/50’s drawing every hour until closing.

If interested in donating your best dessert for auction, please call any rescue squad member or 301-895-5520 for information. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening. Attendees will have the benefit of food and refreshments, including a turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

On Aug. 8 there will be a baked potato bar from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Friendsville Station located at the intersection of Chestnut and First Ave. in Friendsville. Everyone is invited to attend.

Fundraising will continue throughout the summer and fall, please check for upcoming events. Donations are being accepted from individuals and local businesses.

Members continue to serve their respective communities by serving as EMTs and paramedics. The training required to undertake these positions is tremendous and is done on a voluntary basis.

Northern Rescue is looking for interested members of the area to join our team. Training will be provided to get you started. Drivers are also needed. If you have a few hours a week to contribute to your community, we’d like to hear from you. Please call the above number and leave a message. An EMT class is scheduled with a September start date.

The area is blessed by having many citizens serving as emergency service providers. EMTs and firefighters are dedicated to serving their community 365/24/7.

There are many educational opportunities afforded to the volunteers. Won’t you demonstrate your citizenship in service to others? Please call today!
