Town of Westernport needs a police force and a curfew

— Since the consolidation of Bruce and Valley high schools the town of Westernport rapidly deteriorated from what was once a quite respectable community to a community in a decline in residents, and along with that came a collapse in local government due to lack of knowledge and bad decisions that set the town of Westernport back 60 years.

One bad decision was to give up their police force, and with no constant visual law enforcement it has created an open range for drug dealerss, addicts, thieves, drunks and speeding vehicles that choose to ignore our city laws and speed limits and have totally disregard for the safety of the citizens who are on the streets, especially the children who are like deer, you don’t see them until their in front of you.

There are vehicles that have overly loud mufflers and some with no muffler at all. There are unlicensed recreational vehicles that speed up and down the streets and kids and teenagers that roam the streets all hours of the night.

There are neighbors who like to have all-night outside parties that have no respect for other neighbors who are trying to sleep. And again the law is called and again nothing is done. The law leaves and the party continues.

Summer is approaching and all of this illegal activity will elevate to a real serious problem to where someone will eventually be severly injured by these idiot speeders.

I would like to enjoy this summer sitting on my front porch and not to have to listen to all of these loud speeding vehicles and not have to worry about my grandchildren who live next door.

I want to acknowledge that our newly elected town officials are doing a great job after being handed one big mess created by past officials, but we seriously need a police force and a curfew. This mess needs cleaned up.
