Fiddle, banjo, mandolin event proved a pleasant surprise

Every year I attend the Mountain Maryland Art Sale and Tour, coming from the Washington area because I enjoy your local artists, especially the potters in Frostburg.

This year I was also able to attend the Mid-Atlantic Grand Fiddle, Banjo, and Mandolin Championship that was held in Frostburg on Oct. 19 at the Lyric Theater.

What an incredible venue, not only is it beautiful it is also equipped with sound and lighting which makes it especially conducive to an excellent musical presentation.

The talent was amazing, from the artists who have been playing for decades to the youth performers.

The announcer was able to move things along quickly and efficiently, yet still be flexible with late comers and new contest entrants.

I was also impressed by how much the Lions were able to include the community such as Frostburg State University Public Radio, the Appalachian Bluegrass Shoppe who provided instruments for the youth winners, and Del McCoury, who presented the instruments to the youth.

Everyone working was friendly and welcoming. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and I am so happy that I happened upon it!
