To the Editor:
I was in Frostburg for the Mountain Maryland Art Sale and Tour when I ran across the Mid Atlantic Grand Fiddle, Banjo, and Mandolin Championship at the Lyric Theater in Frostburg. WOW!
Sure didn’t expect to see such a beautiful and well-appointed theater in a small town in the mountains of Western Maryland.
The theater is beautiful and has excellent sound and lighting systems along with people who have the expertise to run them. I can’t imagine a better showcase for any program.
My intention was to stay for a short while to hear the music and then proceed with my goal of going on the art tour.
An hour and a half later I tore myself away before all the things I wanted to buy were picked over.
The program was very well organized, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. That can only happen if those who are running the performance are proficient in putting together such an event.
I expected the talent to be top drawer, after all this is where bluegrass should be at its best. I was not disappointed. I was impressed by the young performers and feel they will continue to gain proficiency.
I also enjoyed the announcer, who was poised and was having a great time.
My hat is off to the people who participated and who organized the event.
I will have to say the art tour was also excellent. Kudos to those who put it together. I was able to purchase several Christmas gifts as well a few gifts for myself. I couldn’t resist.
Western Maryland has a lot to offer and I expect to return next year.
