Maryland has stopped being “The Free State”

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

— I am a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and, last but not least, the National Rifle Association. I am a yearly member of the American Legion.

After reading in the paper, Thursday, May 9, how the attorney general stated that the confiscation of our guns by our governor is constitutional, I have to say something (“Attorney general: Gun-control bill constitutional,” Page 1A).

Our attorney general (Doug Gansler) is just another general in the takeover of our state. No longer is Maryland the “Free State.”

Gov. Martin O’Malley began by gerrymandering a large liberal county into our two small conservative counties to eliminate our choice in the elective process.

Allowing deviant unions, getting rid of the death penalty, and finger-printing honest citizens. This along with allowing one of the highest abortion rates per capita: 29 out of 1,000 compared to 19 per 1,000 nationwide.

The governor is taxing an act of God with the “rain tax.” Add to this a tax on our gas, which is going hurt many people. This makes us a Communist state.

Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin and especially Rep. John Delaney have turned us into the most restrictive draconian led state in the Union. The senators voted for stricter gun laws discussion in the Senate vote.

We had two empty hospitals in Western Maryland, and government warehouses full of medical equipment that could have been turned into a Veterans Administration hospital but it is blocked, and yet I still drive over 100 miles to see a VA doctor.

I am having complete organ failure, so the clinic in Cumberland is useless to me.

My last letter was in October 2008, prior to the election. Everything I said then has come true. I got many hateful and threating calls over it.

If you people who are reading this do not start making our servants (lawmakers) serve us, then you will end up with the government you deserve.
