They’re still Lutherans, just not from that particular synod

My letter is a rebuttal to the letter from Rev. Tormod O. Svensson (“Does content of the ad mean pastor is no longer Lutheran?” Nov. 8 Times-News).

This pastor wrote about an ad in the Times-News (Nov. 4, 2012) concerning Marriage Referendum Question 6 (which was passed on election day), bullying and Martin Luther.

I am doing my own bashing (as you stated in your letter) on the ELCA (better check as they may not now be the largest Lutheran Church body in the USA!) ELCA stands for the synod Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Let me present the new rules ELCA, made several years ago:

1. Recognize homosexuals

2. Recognize same sex marriage

3. A same-sex married couple could be sent to a Lutheran Church if one has a Lutheran divinity degree

4. Rewriting the Holy Bible to relate to modern times My church members oppose No. 2, 3 and 4 and with No. 1 ... we accept that person(s) as they will have to answer to a higher authority.

I was one of 73 members of St. John’s Lutheran Church that exited the building after a vote to remove the church from the ELCA.

We won the vote ... but wait ... ELCA says you must have two-thirds  of the vote ... so we lost by nine votes. Just another demand by ELCA! This happened in March 2010.

The pastor of the church was Mark Dill, who had been ministering at St. John’s for 17 years. He was planning on leaving ELCA and the church but was unaware that many were leaving the church on that fateful Sunday, too!

Pastor Mark made it very clear to the congregation what ELCA was forcing on the congregation for about six months with congregational meetings being held.

Some Lutheran ministers at that time chose to sweep it under the rug but not Pastor Mark.

We have come a long way since that uneventful day when many, many other Lutheran churches either split or left ELCA. We are now in a synod ... LCMC ... Lutheran Churches in Mission for Christ, which is increasing every year.

We are the Living Word Lutheran Church, located at 801 Virginia Ave. (Woodmen of the World building), Cumberland.

You are cordially invited to attend our worship hour at 10 a.m.

Only you may decide if you want to continue being a part of ELCA. And yes ... Pastor Mark Dill is our minister.
