Prior to the Allegany and Garrett County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association parade being held in conjuncton with the association’s convention on Saturday in the Tri-Towns, volunteer fire department equipment was judged at Westernport Elementary School. Judges were Ron Watkins of Damascus; Clark Beall of Laytonsville; and Bernie Zlomek of the Maryland Forest Service. Units were judged on several different catagories, including some of the following, organization of equipment, cleanliness of apparatus, first responder equipment/first aid, personnel having turnout gear, knowledge of equipment and location.
