Cooke Foundation accepting nominations for graduate scholarship

FROSTBURG — The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program has opened its applications to include graduating seniors and recent alumni from any of the 2,000 accredited colleges or universities in the U.S.

This is one of the country’s most competitive private scholarship programs and it is open to current Frostburg State University seniors as well as alumni who have graduated since spring 2004.

The scholarship awards graduate students with as much as $50,000 per year for up to six years. The foundation will award the scholarships in early summer for use during the 2009-2010 academic year and will renew each award in subsequent years based on performance. Last year, the foundation awarded 34 of these scholarships.

The private, independent foundation was established in 2005 by the estate of Jack Kent Cooke to help young people reach their full potential through education. Candidates must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, plan to begin a first graduate degree in fall 2009, have unmet financial need and be nominated by their undergraduate institution.
