Hearing planned Thursday on Frankfort area sewer system

Work on $18.2 million project expected to begin this summer

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — The Frankfort Public Service District will conduct a public meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Short Gap Volunteer Fire Department to provide information and receive input on Phase I of the Northern Mineral County Regional Sewer Project.

Phase I will include construction of a new wastewater treatment plant and three interceptor lines to transport sewage to the plant. The plant will be located south of the community of Patterson Creek.

Line 1 will serve Fort Ashby from the new plant south along Patterson Creek to the existing Fort Ashby sewage lagoon.

Line 2 will serve Plum Run, including the developments that have their own sewage treatment system, and Sherwood Acres.

Line 3 will serve Lakewood and the community of Patterson Creek.

The project is estimated to cost $18,221,000. Based on current funding, the proposed rates would include a minimum bill of $28 for the first 2,000 gallons of usage and $10 per 1,000 gallons for all usage over the minimum. Construction is expected to start this summer and take two years to complete.

An application for a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity was filed with the state Public Service Commission on Nov. 20, Case No. 08-2005-PSD-CN.
