DEER PARK — An accidental fire Wednesday morning related to a wood-burner stove destroyed the residence of the Charles Sliger family at 1519 Boiling Spring Road.
An unidentified female occupant was taken to Garrett Memorial Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation following the 7:28 a.m. incident.
A Deer Park volunteer firefighter was treated at the Oakland hospital after suffering an ankle injury during the fire operation.
Deer Park Fire Chief Kenny Collins said the two-story frame dwelling was destroyed. Estimates of the property loss in building and contents were not available. The property is owned by Charles and John Sachs of Baltimore.
Approximately 20 volunteer firefighters responded to the fire, which was caused by a malfunction of a wood-burner stove in the living room. The fire began in the flue and then extended into the walls of the structure, according to Collins.
The American Red Cross provided immediate assistance to the victims.
Firefighters were on the scene for two hours including Deer Park, Oakland and Deep Creek companies. Southern and Northern rescue squads also responded.
