Historic group to meet Wednesday

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Historic Preservation Commission will meet Wednesday at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

A certificate of appropriateness for the Smith Building at 113 S. George St. is on the agenda. A heritage area update will be given by Renee Bone, executive director of the Canal Place Preservation & Development Authority.



Allegany pep rally Thursday

CUMBERLAND — Allegany High School will host a pep rally Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the gym for both the girls and boys basketball teams. The boys will play Digital Harbor at the University of Maryland Comcast Center on Friday at 5 p.m. The girls play Digital Harbor at University of Maryland Baltimore County at 9 p.m.

The school will dismiss three hours early Friday for students to attend the state basketball tournaments. This includes Allegany students who attend the Career Center as well.



Luke officials to meet Wednesday

LUKE — The Luke Mayor and Commissioners will meet Wednesday at 11 a.m in the auditorium of the Luke City Building. A work session will follow.

The meeting is open to the public and will be recorded.



For Girls Only seeks donations

CUMBERLAND — High school students looking for prom wear may find what they want during the For Girls Only event Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Riverside YMCA Youth Center.

Formal dresses, shoes and accessories will be available from donations that are made to the Salvation Army and YMCA. Donations are still being accepted. For more information, call Shelly Minnigh at the YMCA at (301) 777-9622.



Wind, raptors focus of talk

FROSTBURG — The Ap-palachian Laboratory Seminar Series will present “Appalachian Wind Energy and Raptors: Moving Forward in a Data Vacuum” on Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 109.

David Brandes, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, Lafayette College, Easton, Pa., will be the speaker.
