Garrett budget cuts possible

OAKLAND - The Deep Creek Lake Sanitary District will expand to accommodate two additional lots, following a public hearing Tuesday.
"The Garrett County Department of Public Utilities received two requests for amendments to the Deep Creek Lake Sanitary District," Linda Lindsey, department director, said. "DC Development requested inclusion and David A. Biafora. Both are contiguous to current borders."
Lindsey said that Biafora's request was for a single-family dwelling on Pysell Road with frontage already at a sewer line. DC Development's request was for a development of multifamily units off Hoyes Run Road adjacent to The Greens at the Wisp Development.
Charles Thorn questioned how many homes would be possible on the plot of land proposed by DC Development, and County Commission chairman Denny Glotfelty questioned if it is within the watershed zoning.
Lindsey said that it falls within the zoning district, but she wasn't certain what the zoning for that area would allow. The final design for the project has not been completed and shown to her, and she added that the number of units was not part of the application process.
Ernie Gregg, county commissioner, said he felt it would be good to know how many of these residential units would be on the property.
According to Bill Devore, zoning administrator for planning and land development, the maximum number of single-home units possible for the property would be eight, or 16 townhouse or apartment units. This number, he said, is based upon the two-acre property area on the tax map, which falls within the town residential zoning for the watershed.
"I'm wondering how we're doing with capacity on the treatment plant," Thorn said.
Glotfelty said there is still "plenty of capacity" at the plant at this point.
The county commissioners unanimously approved the border change.
