Investigators: Toddler’s death ‘suspicious’

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

OAKLAND — The recent death of a 15-month-old Mountain Lake Park girl has been termed “suspicious,” according to the Garrett County Bureau of Investigation of the county sheriff’s office.

Cheyenne Eileen Michelle Stein died April 1 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., after being transferred there March 29 from Garrett Memorial Hospital.

The child was admitted to the Oakland hospital March 28 after she was “found to be unresponsive at her Mountain Lake Park home by a family member” at 10:31 p.m.

“GBI investigators and Child Protective Services personnel from the Department of Social Services have been in contact with attending physicians from the beginning of this chain of events,” read a news release faxed Monday to the Times-News by the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is continuing.

A sheriff’s office spokesman declined to provide any additional information and said that further details would be released as they become available.
