Reading specialist elected to board

CUMBERLAND — Karen D’Angelo Bromley, former Allegany County public schools reading specialist, was recently elected to the International Reading Association’s Board of Trustees.

While in Allegany County, D’Angelo Bromley taught at several schools, including those in Midland, Ellerslie and Corriganville. She is a distinguished teaching professor in the School of Education at Binghamton University, where she is the director of graduate studies and the America Reads Program.

The State University of New York Board of Trustees appointed her as a distinguished teaching professor, which is the highest academic rank in the SUNY system.

D’angelo Bromley received her master’s degree in education from SUNY Potsdam and her doctorate in early childhood/elementary education and reading from the University of Maryland. Her interests include classroom practices and strategies for improving reading and writing. She has written articles for professional journals as well as books for teachers on topics related to comprehension, writing and vocabulary.
