Treatment plant on schedule

— The Georges Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade is about 45 percent complete and on schedule. Galway Bay Corp. of Mount Braddock, Pa., is the general contractor. The plant is located along state Route 36 between Barton and Westernport. The $28.4-million project is expected to be complete in July 2010. The state is paying for more than two-thirds of the project. Allegany County was given a 20-year loan for $8.9 million with a 1 percent interest rate. The local users will repay the loan with the major portion, $350 per household, to be included on July 2010 tax bills.
