Police hunting Bedford fugitive

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

BEDFORD — The Bedford County District Attorney, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Bedford Borough Police are requesting assistance in locating a fugitive from justice.

Two warrants have been issued for David Amick, 39, of Bedford.

On April 8, 2009, Amick was charged with violating a Protection from Abuse order issued by Judge Thomas Ling on April 7, 2009. Since that date, Amick has been charged with violating that order six more times.

“We know that David Amick remains in the Bedford area. There is no question that someone is providing lodging and assistance to Mr. Amick, and when we locate him, I assure you, that person will be arrested as well,” said District Attorney Bill Higgins.

“The court issued an order requiring that Amick have no contact with the victim in this case, and Amick has simply ignored that order. My office takes these matters very seriously. I have grave concerns for the safety of the victim in this case. Just last year a young woman lost her life because her estranged husband refused to obey a PFA Order. David Amick’s conduct will not be tolerated, we are not playing games with this guy, and I intend to seek an appropriate punishment once he is apprehended. His best bet would be to immediately turn himself into the police,” said Higgins.

David Amick is a white male with a date of birth of Oct. 17, 1969. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds. His hair color is described as red or auburn, and he has green eyes.

Anyone with any information related to Amick is urged to contact the Pennsylvania State Police at (814) 623-6133, or call 911. Due to the nature of the charges and threats made by the defendant, Amick is possibly armed and dangerous.

The District Attorney cautions that charges against Amick are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
