CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Astronomy Club will kick off its International Year of Astronomy observance on Friday and Saturday.

The Friday session from 8 to 11 p.m. will be at the historic Meyersdale Train Station on the Allegheny Highlands Trail in Meyersdale, Pa. Visitors will be able to view the moon through a variety of telescopes, including one similar to that used by Galileo.

On Saturday, International Astronomy Day, the club will present its program at the Frostburg State University planetarium in Tawes Hall at 7:30 p.m. The program will include a special presentation by Dr. Bob Doyle. If skies are clear, telescopes will be set up following the show.

Visitors are encouraged to bring along a digital camera to photograph the moon through a telescope eyepiece.
