Recycling date moved for May

FROSTBURG — The city of Frostburg will move its yard waste recycling from the first Wednesday of May to the third Wednesday. The change is for May only and is to accommodate a training program for employees of the Street, Water and Recreation departments.

This does not affect the newspaper recycling, which occurs on the second Wednesday of the month.

Free services on Law Day

OAKLAND — Members of the Garrett County Bar Association will celebrate Law Day on Monday by providing free legal services at two locations in the county.

Local attorneys will be available to answer questions at the Grantsville Library from noon to 4 p.m.

In Oakland, the event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at the Community Services Building of Garrett Memorial Hospital, due to the temporary closure of the library. The building is located between the hospital and the offices of the Garrett Medical Group.

This is the third year that the bar association has presented this service to the community.

Fountain plans hydrant flush

FOUNTAIN, W.Va. — The Fountain Public Service District will flush fire hydrants starting Monday through Friday.

Customers may experience a change in water pressure.

Candidates to speak Thursday

LONACONING — A meet-the-candidates night featuring hopefuls seeking elected positions in Lonaconing will take place Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bishop Murray Center and will be moderated by the Rev. Rick Morley.

Candidates will respond to questions from town residents.

John W. Coburn Jr., the incumbent, and Orville W. Crowe are running for mayor. Eight candidates are vying for four council seats. Just one incumbent, Warren E. Foote, is in the race. The others are Alexa Broadwater Moses, Robert Dale Knox, Cherie Renee Blubaugh, Joyce Ann Wilson, Mark Harris Greenwald III, Nicholas Todd Hadley and David Alex Kidwell.

The election will take place May 8.

Group to hear about housing

CUMBERLAND — The Greater Cumberland Committee will hear presentations on housing at its meeting Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Cumberland Country Club.

Information on the Liberty Lofts project at the former Zembower Hardware building will be presented by developer Michael Joy as well as information on Garrett County Community Action’s housing assistance programs.
