Summer science camp for students
CUMBERLAND — Students interested in attending the Summer 2009 Gateway Academy from June 22 to 26 at the Center for Career and Technical Education must complete their applications today.
There is no charge for selected middle school students to attend the camp from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation and Project Lead the Way, the academy strives to inspire students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. School guidance counselors have the applications. Students will be notified by June 3 if they are accepted. For more information, contact Darlene Bacon or Robert Prosser at (301) 729-6486.
Mother’s Day dinner at Barton fire hall
BARTON — Barton Hose Company 1 will sponsor a Mother’s Day ham and turkey dinner with stuffing Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the fireman’s armory.
Friendsville park to receive upgrades
FRIENDSVILLE — A $26,000 grant to upgrade a comfort station at Friendsville Community Park is included in the State Waterway Improvement Funds announced by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
The money will allow handicapped access and improved capacity at the site.
