Westernport Library closed for upgrades

WESTERNPORT - The Westernport Library has closed to prepare for renovation work scheduled to start June 2. The library is expected to re-open in late July or early August.

This is the second phase of renovation for the library. New paint and carpet will be used in schemes to improve the look and feel inside the building, to define the usage of specific spaces, while improving the ability of staff to fully monitor the entire facility.

The electrical wiring system will be upgraded and will include modern and energy-efficient lighting.

The facility also will receive its first safety system, with smoke detectors, sprinklers, fire alarms, pull-boxes and the ability to remotely monitor the facility.

The intended work should ensure the safety and sustainability of the facility as a center of the community. In a town of a little over 2,100 people, the library, which is open six days a week, sees more than 2,000 visitors a month.
