Lincoln lecture at Romney courthouse

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Bertram Wyatt-Brown, professor of history emeritus at the University of Florida and a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University, will present a free public lecture, “Lincoln’s Assassination Revisited,” May 19 at 7 p.m. in the courtroom of the old Hampshire County Courthouse.

The program is the final in a series of three lectures presented by the West Virginia Humanities Council in observance of the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial. Wyatt-Brown appears in West Virginia through the Distinguished Lectureship Program of the Organization of American Historians.

Students learn about fire careers

CRESAPTOWN — The Center for Career and Technical Education will host a Fire and Rescue Career Awareness event May 26 from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.

Bus transportation will be provided for interested high school sophomores and juniors. Students will be given an overview of the Career Center’s fire and rescue program and will participate in hands-on activities.
