Hardy elects new faces to BOE; Hampshire keeps two

KEYSER - Hardy County voters removed two incumbent board of education members on the ballot during Tuesday's primary election and elected two new ones.

Nancy Hahn, with 2,393 votes, and Lloyd Kesner, with 1,848 votes, ousted incumbents Max Park, with 1,034 votes, and Red Funkhouser, with 850 votes. Bradley Rinard, the fifth candidate on the ballot for the two seats, netted 571 votes.

The nonpartisan school board seats are filled in the primary and those elected take their seats July 1.

Hampshire County voters casting ballots for two board of education seats are apparently happy with the incumbents, re-electing Linda J. Baker and Bernie Hott, with 2,503 votes and 2,504 votes, respectively.

Challenger David Spurling netted 1,149 votes, and 55 voters wrote in other people not on the ballot.

In Grant County, only two candidates filed for the two seats; incumbent Jerry Ours received 1,730 votes, while newcomer David Jones received 2,154 votes.

In each of the three counties, those elected will join three other members of the board elected two years ago. School board members serve four-year terms with the staggered elections seating three members in one election and two in the next.
