Mineral school board to meet
KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Board of Education will consider a recent request for use of the South End Sports Complex at Tuesday’s meeting.
The First Baptist and Keyser Assembly of God churches asked the board to approve holding a two-day event on the property this summer.
Other agenda items include recognition of this year’s Golden Horseshoe winners and various professional transfers and assignments.
The board hopes to advertise for school bus operators for next school year.
Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Administrative Office at 1 Baker Place.
Meeting to discuss adult day care
CUMBERLAND — A meeting to discuss concerns about the closing of the Western Maryland Health System Adult Day Care will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the LaVale Library.
Family members, friends and advocates for clients of the day care center will meet with anyone who is interested in the needs of the people being displaced by the closing of the program.
School security system in place
WESTERNPORT — A new security entry system at Westernport Elementary School will be operational Monday. Doors will be unlocked when students arrive and for dismissal.
During class time, an intercom system will be in use for people who want to enter the building.
A similar system will be tested at West Side Elementary on Friday so that it can be used beginning May 26.
Frankfort Middle holds concert
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — The Frankfort Middle School music department will present its annual spring concert Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
The concert will feature the chorus, directed by Staci Calder, and the concert band, conducted by Fred Kesner. Teal Steel will perform beofre the concert groups.
After hours event scheduled May 20
CUMBERLAND — Back to Basics, Dr. Andrea’s Chiropractic Center, will host the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce After Hours on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The center is located in the Bel Air Plaza. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, paraffin hand dips, chair massages, nervous system checkups and door prizes.
Chamber members who bring a guest will be entered in a drawing for a free crab feast ticket. The member who brings the most non-member guests will be eligible for a prize.

Mineral economic group meets
KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Development Authority will discuss wireless and broadband Internet issues when members meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Central Business Center conference room.
Committee reports will include support and services, retention, marketing and the Green Jobs Task Force.
The meeting includes time for questions and comments from the public.
The next meeting will be June 16 at 8:30 a.m.
People needed for Caring and Sharing
CUMBERLAND — Volunteers are needed for the Cumberland Day of Caring and Sharing, sponsored by the United Way of Allegany County, Let’s Beautify Cumberland!, Columbia Gas and CSX.
The event will begin at 8 a.m. June 5 on the downtown mall. Volunteers will then report to various project sites throughout the city. Lunch will be provided at noon on the mall.

Angel Food orders due
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Angel Food Ministries of Calvary Assembly of God, state Route 46,, will take orders Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the church.
Distribution day will be May 30 from 9 to 11 a.m.
