Goldsworthy Scholars

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

Goldsworthy Scholars - the top 10 scholars of Keyser High School's graduating class - were honored by the Keyser Lions Club Thursday.

Left to right: James Goldsworthy, whose father the honor is named for; Elva Whetzel; Hayward Wilson, Keyser Lions Club president; Kathryn Wood; Katelyn Weber; Tiana Warner; Matt Idleman; Devin Diehl; Corey Brill; Megan Hott; and Charles Wimer, Keyser High School principal.

Scholars not pictured are Eric Walker, Kourtni Roby and Andrew Gilbert.

James W. Goldsworthy is remembered as one of Mineral County's most beloved educators and humanitarians.

Goldsworthy was the first Keyser High graduate to return as the school's principal.

Academically, he is perhaps best remembered as the initiator, with the Keyser Lions Club, of the scholars program.

Even after his retirement in 1971, Goldsworthy continued to work with the program as a member of the Lions club.
