Five hurt in ATV, dirt bike accidents
10-year-old girl taken to Ruby Memorial

GRANTSVILLE — Police and emergency services personnel were kept busy with all-terrain vehicle and off-road motorcycle accidents Sunday afternoon, leading to five injuries.
Two juvenile girls were injured following a four-wheeler crash near 3108 Fairview Road at 1:26 p.m., according to Maryland State Police.
The operator of the ATV, a 17-year-old Grantsville girl, was taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital by Northern Rescue Squad. The passenger, a 10-year-old, also of Grantsville, received “incapacitating” injuries and was flown to Cumberland Memorial by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter and then on to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
According to police reports, the ATV was driven into a ditch on private land, which caused the operator and passenger to be ejected.
Grantsville Fire Department also responded. State police investigated.
At 2:26 p.m. near Fort Ashby, W.Va., two were injured in a four-wheeler accident at Champwood Ridge near state Route 46, according to the Mineral County Office of Emergency Services and Homeland Security. They were taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital.
The accident was on private property and no fire departments were called to the scene, according to a 911 dispatcher.
Another person was injured after an off-road motorcycle crashed near Avilton-Lonaconing Road in Avilton around 5 p.m., according to Garrett County Emergency Services.
Northern Garrett Rescue Squad transported the patient to Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Eastern Garrett Fire Department also responded. Natural Resources Police investigated.
No further information was available as of Tuesday.
