— Oldtown bridge closed to traffic
OLDTOWN — Opessa Street at Bridge No. A-79 over Seven Springs Run is closed to all traffic.
The Allegany County Department of Public Works Engineering Division has awarded a $197,950 contract to Carl Belt Inc. of Cumberland to remove the bridge and build new cast-in-place abutments and steel beam with an open-grid decking superstructure.

Blood donors have chance for gift card
CUMBERLAND — The area’s American Red Cross Blood Services is having a birthday and blood donors are invited to join the celebration.
Donors during June are automatically entered in that day’s drawing for a $60 gift card of their choice to either BP, Sheetz, Speedway, Target or Walmart.
The Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region was chartered June 15, 1949, so it’s celebrating 60 years of saving lives. Thirty $60 gift cards will be awarded during the month.
Individuals age 17 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. For more information, call (800) 542-5663. Most donors are eligible to give blood every 56 days.

Ridgeley Town Hall closed for election
RIDGELEY, W.Va. — The Ridgeley Town Hall will be closed Tuesday for Election Day.
Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department Bingo Hall on Potomac Street.
Mayor Richard Lechliter is running unopposed.
The ballot includes seven candidates running for five open council seats: J.C. Kinsman, Tom Hedrick, Robert Shipley, Lynn Carr, Jim Twigg, Don McFarland and Mark D. Jones.

Lynndie England, author at book store
KEYSER, W.Va. — Author Gary Winkler will be at Main Street Books on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with his new biography of Lynndie England, “Tortured.”
England, of Fort Ashby, will also be available to talk about the biography that includes her relationship with fellow Army reservist Charles Graner and the atmosphere that existed at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

DAV Mobile Service Office to be here
CUMBERLAND — The Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be at the Veterans Affairs Cumberland Outpatient-Based Clinic on June 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
DAV will help veterans and their families file claims and can provide counseling about benefits and services.
