Teen seriously hurt when logging truck, car collide

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - A 16-year-old boy was in critical condition Tuesday evening following a collision with a fully loaded logging truck earlier in the day.

Andrew Bashoor was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after his compact vehicle crashed on U.S. Route 220 just north of Moorefield, according to the Hardy County 911 Center.

Officials confirmed the victim is the son of Mineral County Office of Emergency Services and Homeland Security Director Marc Bashoor and Laura Bashoor, and a student at Moorefield High School. As of late Tuesday evening, a spokesman with the hospital's Surgical Intensive Care Unit said Bashoor's condition remained critical.

The 8:11 a.m. collision at U.S. 220 and Cunningham Lane is being investigated by the Hardy County Sheriff's Office, but Hardy County Office of Emergency Services Director Paul Lewis said Cpl. Jamie Carter, an accident reconstruction deputy from Hampshire County, responded since Hardy County doesn't have one. Hardy County Deputy Emory "Bill" Feaster is the investigating officer.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection also responded, due to spilled fuel at the crash site. Authorities said the highway was closed to traffic until 12:30 p.m. as a result of the accident. Numerous first-responders were sent to the scene including Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company, Fraley's Ambulance Service and Department of Transportation personnel.

An Air Care IV helicopter from the Winchester (Va.) Medical Center flew Bashoor to Ruby Memorial, a spokes-man with the 911 center said.
