Luke mayor re-elected; two candidates tie for commissioner seat

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

LUKE — Mayor Joseph W. LaRue was re-elected with 27 votes Monday, when 68 percent of the town’s registered voters cast their ballots.

Challenger Dorothy L. Johnston received 11 votes.

Incumbent Gary L. Wiltison got the top number of votes, 32, in the commissioner race. James Parker, 21 votes, and incumbent Thomas D. Clayton, 19, also will serve two-year terms as commissioner.

A run-off election will be held in the near future to determine the fourth commissioner between incumbent Janet Bryan and Terry Boyce, who each gained 18 votes.

Other candidates included incumbent Donna Fracasso, 15 votes; Ellen M. Boyce, 9; and write-ins James Lewis, 3; and Leo Mazzone and Ed Clemons, 2 each.

Paper ballots were used by voters with the write-in privilege available. Four absentee ballots were requested and returned.

The Supervisors of the Board of Elections were Virginia Poland, chairwoman, Vickie Lewis and Barbara Davis. The board was assisted by the town clerks.

The mayor and commissioners will be sworn into office by the clerk of the Allegany County Circuit Court. Plans are under way for the ceremony to take place following the run-off election and the close of old business by the present commission on a date to be announced.
