— Mount Savage man charged in kidnapping
ELLERSLIE - A Mount Savage man was charged with kidnapping, two counts of assault and vehicle theft after he allegedly took a 20-month-old baby and a car at his girlfriend's home early Tuesday.
Jamie L. Winters, 32, was arrested at the girlfriend's Ellerslie home.
Maryland State Police were called to investigate a reported domestic assault at the residence. Winters took his girlfriend's car keys and vehicle only to later return to the scene, taking their baby from her home, police said.
Authorities said Winters fled in the victim's 1991 Chevrolet Lumina. His girlfriend and some other people went to search for the car and found Winters at a restaurant near the Maryland state line on state Route 35. An argument between the pair ensued and when a Hyndman, Pa., man tried to intervene, Winters alleg-edly struck him on the head and neck with num-chucks and cut him with a kitchen knife, causing a contusion and a 3-inch cut to the victim's neck. Police said the man refused medical treatment at the scene and Winters then fled.
Shortly before 6 a.m., Winters returned to the girlfriend's home with the baby. Police said the baby was not harmed and he was subsequently arrested.
Police charged Winters with kidnapping a child under 16, abducting a child under 16 and theft of a motor vehicle. Winters is being held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $25,000 bond. He will appear for a bond review hearing Wednesday.
Pennsylvania State Police at Bedford station charged Winters with aggravated assault in connection with the assault in that state. His extradition to Pennsylvania is pending and will not occur until after the Maryland charges are handled.
Police seek tips on lake boat hit, run
DEEP CREEK LAKE - Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating a possible hit-and-run boating accident that occurred within the last two weeks in the Cherry Creek Cove area.
Sometime between May 26 and June 7, while still secured to the dock, the right rear side of a pontoon boat was struck.
Police said they have no suspects but ask anyone with information to call the Western Regional Office at (301) 777-7771.
