Free downtown concert a treat for Father’s Day

CUMBERLAND — You can bring your dad and treat him to a special downtown Cumberland concert featuring Brother Short today beginning at 6 p.m. on the Liberty Street stage.

“It’s our treat for Father’s Day,” said Ed Mullaney, downtown manager. “Brother Short was supposed to play at a Friday After Five a couple of weeks ago but we decided to save them for something a little special — a free Father’s Day show. We’re encouraging everyone to come downtown, maybe take Dad out for dinner and then listen to some great musicians.

Brother Short is a collective of four brothers and a younger sister of different parents, brought together by fate and bound together by their love of music and each other. Their music reflects a long and winding set of paths that intertwine and cross at points seemingly chosen for their poignancy and timing, as if it were inevitable. A Brother Short song can lift you up, touch your spirit, make you sing, dance and cry and leave you with a lasting impression. Hailing from North-central West Virginia, Brother Short is comprised of singers/guitarists/songwriters Greg and Luke Short, singer Leah Carpenter, bassist Chuck Wilson and drummer Bill Harding.

Over 100 years of collective experience in songwriting, performing and entertaining is evident in their music, both live and in the studio. With influences ranging from Marshall Tucker to the Doobie Brothers, their sound appeals to a wide variety of musical tastes and genres.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at Windsor Hall at Town Center.
