City may soon repair elevators

Damage occurred during line break

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — The ups and downs may be starting up again at the Cumberland Public Safety Building if the mayor and council hire ThyssenKrupp Elevator to repair the water-damaged elevators.

At Tuesday’s public city meeting, the city officials will vote on an order to accept ThyssenKrupp’s proposal in the amount of $38,791.

“Repairs have been ongoing since the (water main) break and the elevators are just about the last thing to be fixed,” said City Administrator Jeff Repp.

The elevator system was damaged when a 6-inch water line ruptured in February under the floor in the fire department’s apparatus room.

Paul DePalatis, the city’s project engineer, said if the proposal is accepted, the work should be done within the next month. He adds Erie Insurance has already picked up the cost for the floor work and should do the same with the elevator repairs.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, officials will be reviewing an order authorizing a change to the contract with Carl Belt Inc. for the replacement of the Ridgedale Reservoir with a storage tank, increasing the estimated cost by approximately $33,959.

They also will review orders authorizing the execution of the memorandum of understanding with Allegany County Human Resource Development Commission regarding the conveyance and rehabilitation of the property at 9 Virginia Ave. and an order to execute the subrecipient agreement to transfer the Section 8 Housing Program management and administration to HRDC.
