Friends, families can find fireworks on the Fourth

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

Following are some of the Fourth of July fireworks displays scheduled in our area:

Cumberland:

It’ll be Red, White and Blue Day at Constitution Park in celebration of the Fourth of July. The pool will be open from noon to 8 p.m. and anyone dressed in red, white and blue will be admitted for half price. There will also be games, prizes and balloons.

The Potomac Concert Band is scheduled to perform at the Constitution Park Ampitheater at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Lynn Zeller. The band will be performing a program of patriotic music and show tunes.

Fireworks by Schaefer Pyrotechnics Inc. of Ronks, Pa., are scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m and will be set off at the Constitution Park overlook.

The Constitution Park ballfield, Long Field, will be closed to spectators this year in order to comply with the regulation distance required from the fireworks shooting site. The area will be marked off with tape and all spectators are to stay behind the marking tape.

Traffic patterns in and around the park will be altered to accommodate the expected large crowds within the park for the July 4 activities.

The rain date is scheduled for July 5.

Lonaconing:

Fourth of July celebrations, sponsored by the Georges Creek Fireworks Committee, will be held on July 3 with a rain date set for July 5.

Beginning at 5 p.m., music, entertainment and carnival rides will be set up at Westmar Middle School. Concession stands will be set up throughout the area and run by the Barton Fire Company. There will also be a 50/50 drawing at 9 p.m.

The fireworks display by Fireworks Productions Incorporated of Maryland Line is scheduled to begin around 9:30 p.m.

Parking is available, but those parking along state Route 36 are advised to back into the railroad or risk being towed. Parking along Detmold Street will be turned into one-way traffic and used for residential parking only; those parking there will be required to show identification. The entrance will be on the upper-side toward Lonaconing.

No coolers or alcoholic beverages are permitted on school property.

Keyser, W.Va.:

Celebrations for the Fourth of July will kick off with a water battle at South End Park at 9 a.m.

The John R. Shelton Swimming Pool will be open with free admission and entertainment throughout the day. The Rondels will continue the festivities, performing at the Church-McKee Arts Center at 6:30 p.m.

The fireworks display by the local fire department will be at Stanley Field and begin between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

McHenry:

The annual Fire on the Mountain Fireworks Display sponsored by Hugh Umbel Companies is set to begin around 9:30 p.m. The fireworks will be launched from the top of Bear Claw Tubing Park at Wisp Resort. Prime viewing locations include the Scenic Overlook on U.S. Route 219, Wisp Resort and from a boat on Deep Creek Lake, particularly around McHenry cove.

The rain date is set for July 5.
