Military family group accepting donations

Cumberland Times-News

ACCIDENT — The Military Family Support Group, a volunteer organization that helps families meet the challenges of military life, is hosting a food drive for the troops serving overseas during the 4th of July celebration in Accident.

Donations of any of the following items are appreciated: beef jerky, Slim Jims (no pork products), prepackaged cookies, single drink packets, peanuts, cashews, snack size cans of potato chips, trail mix, Goldfish crackers, cheese or peanut butter crackers, hard candy and gum. Nonfood items such as notes of appreciation for their service, crossword/puzzles books and Nerf footballs will be included in the packages to be sent.

Monetary donations are needed to help with postage. All donations are tax-deductible; receipts will be given upon request.

The group will be at the Accident Fire Hall at 10 a.m. Visitors are invited to stop by the booth either before or after the parade and see a display board with photos of local troops and talk with group members about local servicemen and women. There will be games for the kids and goodies for everyone.

Items may be dropped off at Nu-Finish Collision Center, 1470 Maryland Highway, Mountain Lake Park, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or Englander’s (Dottie’s Grill), any day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Contact the Military Family Support Group for more information by calling Mel or Cathy Menker at (301) 334-5906 or Sheila Shaffer at (301) 616-6109 or log on to www.supportlocalmilitary.com.
