Bridge replacement to begin Monday
WOODLAND — The bridge at the intersection of Old Legislative and Klondike roads will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday so that the Allegany County Roads Division may begin work to replace the superstructure.
Truck traffic will not be permitted on Woodland Road, but all other traffic will be detoured there.
The closure will be in effect for about four weeks, weather permitting completion of the project.

Bus system adds new express routes
CUMBERLAND — Beginning Monday, Allegany County Transit will offer six additional half-hour Red Line Express routes to service the Willowbrook Road area.
Because of the additional routes, adjustments will be made to the Red Line and the Gold Line.
• Bedford Road/State Line and North Cumberland areas will have service on the 7:30-to-8:30 a.m., 9-to-10 a.m., and 3-to-4 p.m. runs only.
• Frostburg/LaVale runs will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. During Frostburg State University’s fall and spring semesters, the shuttle will be available until 11:30 p.m. weekdays.
Fixed-route bus service will no longer be offered Saturday.
Alltrans will operate weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. effective July 11.
No public transportation will be provided Friday and Saturday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

Miss Md. Pageant awards announced
CUMBERLAND — Miss Allegany County Casandra Tressler was a top 10 semifinalist and preliminary swimsuit winner in the 2009 Miss Maryland Pageant held at the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown.
Madeleine Bohrer was first runner-up to Miss Maryland’s Outstanding Teen.
Miss Cumberland Nicki Bailey won a talent award and Miss Allegany County Outstanding Teen Aleksandra Knepper won an interview award. Briannin Stevenson, Miss Appalachia Outstanding Teen, was second runner-up to Miss Maryland’s Outstanding Teen.
Other young women from the area competing were Kennedy Logsdon, Hollie Robertson, Haylee Baer and Malia Bailey.
Miss Maryland Louise Schlegel, who had competed as Miss Allegany County in 2008, and Garrett County native Joanna Guy, the reigning Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen, handed over their crowns to Miss University City Brooke Poklema and Miss Greater Baltimore Outstanding Teen Stephanie Meadowcroft.
County libraries to be closed
CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Library System will be closed Friday and Saturday for Independence Day.
The summer library hours are in effect. New hours for Frostburg, LaVale, South Cumberland and Washington Street branches are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Georges Creek, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday 2 to 8 p.m.; and Westernport, Monday and Tuesday, 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
