Heartland journey

For the Cumberland Times-News
Cumberland Times-News

Sheila Golden invited Girl Scout Troop 619 to join the Heartland Hillbillies Chapter of the Red Hat Society for a presentation by Joanna Guy, Miss Maryland’s Outstanding Teen 2008-09 and 2008 National Youth Storytelling champion. She presented her original story, “Give My Regards to Broadway.” From the left are Hanna Popp, Jordyn Custer, Lucy Litten, Cheyenne Thompson, Joanna Guy, Katie Amtower, Taryn Thompson and Sara Powell. Right: Without leaving Keyser, members of the Heartland chapter enjoyed a journey down New York City’s Great White Way. Guy shared an original story titled “Give My Regards to Broadway.” The story combined Guy’s passion for music and her love for storytelling. The fanciful tale was told in the first person about a teenage girl’s madcap adventures in New York City. The story featured cameo appearances by such famous Broadway characters as “The Phantom From the Opera’’and Glinda the Good Witch from the “Wizard of Oz.’’ Pictured with Guy after her presentation is Heartland resident Dessie Bothwell.
