Luke Homecoming planning under way

For the Cumberland Times-News

LUKE — The Luke Homecoming Planning Committee has begun preparations for its 2009 celebration. The annual event is slated for Aug. 16 from noon until 4 p.m., and will be held at the Luke City Building.

During the June 11 session, the committee decided that the 50-50 raffle tickets will be sold the day of the homecoming only. Children’s games, bingo, and the theme basket give-away will continue to be part of the day’s activities. The theme basket will be filled with items for a tailgate party.

The silent auction and cake walk are on the agenda. Donations can be made to either of these activities by contacting Frank McGreevy or Vickie Lewis, respectively.

Brian’s classic hot dogs will be selling the refreshments for the event. The committee is planning to distribute cupcakes and ice cream cups as extra treats.

With approval from NewPage, Inc., parking will be available in the Grant Street and Vineyard parking lots.

To contribute to the local food drive, non-perishable groceries will be accepted. A deposit box will be provided for anyone wishing to donate such items.

Everything received will be given to a local church organization for distribution. Tom Clayton will be heading this project.

The next meeting is set for July 16 at 6:30 p.m., at the Luke City Building. As always, volunteers are needed and any interested individual is urged to attend.
