SHORT GAP, W.Va. — A Cumberland woman was fatally injured in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on state Route 28 that seriously injured her mother and the other driver, according to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department.

Alyssia Cage, 21, died at Memorial Hospital following the 2:23 p.m. accident that occurred in the area of the West Virginia Division of Highways building.

Cage’s mother, Carol Moran, 45, of Cumberland, and Lisa Shreve, 43, of Fort Ashby, were listed in serious condition following the accident, police said.

Shreve’s northbound Cadillac Escalade traveled left of center and struck the southbound Nissan Altima operated by Cage and also occupied by Moran, police said.

Cage was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by first-responders. All the victims were transported by ambulance, police said.

Deputy Brian Kerling is continuing to investigate the accident with Deputy Kevin McKone.
