City to discuss plans and zoning issues

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland mayor and council will consider planning and zoning recommendations to update the city’s comprehensive plan and establish standards for wind energy systems when they meet Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. in City Hall.

Other agenda items include a public hearing on sign standards within the Gateway zoning districts, an ordinance to borrow money for wastewater treatment plant upgrades and annexation of 7 acres on Country Club Road.

The Community Legacy program will also be discussed.



Motorcycle training available in W.Va.

FRANKLIN, W.Va.— West Virginia’s Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program put its new mobile training unit to work last week with six riders trained at the Franklin Department of Motor Vehicle Regional Office in the Pendleton Business Center.

The new unit consists of a trailer that holds up to six training motorcycles and up to six people for the classroom inside it. Federal funding paid for the trailer and the truck, and the motorcycles were paid through the Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program fund.

Bridge replacement to begin Monday

WOODLAND — The bridge at the intersection of Old Legislative and Klondike roads will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday so that the Allegany County Roads Division may begin work to replace the superstructure.

Truck traffic will not be permitted on Woodland Road, but all other traffic will be detoured there.

The closure will be in effect for about four weeks, weather permitting completion of the project.

Piedmont Council to meet Wednesday

PIEDMONT, W.Va. — The mayor and council of Piedmont will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the city office building on Second Street.
