CUMBERLAND - A 30-year-old city man arrested Sunday night during investigation of a burglary complaint has also been charged in connection with the May 18 assault that severely injured a 58-year-old Cumberland man.
Rashad D. Page of Ascension Street was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. when Cumberland Police arrived to investigate a burglary complaint at a Kent Avenue residence.
Police said Page entered the residence through a bedroom window and then refused to leave as ordered by an occupant.
Police found Page in a bedroom of the residence and then made the arrest without incident.
In addition to burglary counts, Page was served with an outstanding warrant charging him with multiple counts of first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and affray.
Page remained jailed Monday on $760,000 bond following bail review in district court.
Page is the third person to be charged in connection with the beating of a city man who was hospitalized with severe injuries following an alleged assault on West Oldtown Road.
Also arrested were James Lee Bevans, 20, of Frostburg, and Lee Eugene Carpenter, 28, of Cumberland, on the same charges filed against Page.
Bevans was arrested June 15 at Baltimore and Mechanic streets by a Cumberland Police officer on patrol.
Bevans posted $50,000 bond June 18, pending a preliminary hearing in district court July 15.
Carpenter remained jailed Monday at the Allegany County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. He was arrested by the C3I Fugitive Warrant Squad on June 16.
The assault investigation was conducted by Cumberland Police and the C3I Unit.
The victim, James Thomas Grapes Sr., has remained hospitalized at Memorial Hospital since the incident. He was listed in stable condition Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
