Volunteers are busy with plans for this year’s Luke Homecoming. The event is set for Aug. 17 and will get under way at noon with a variety of activities for all ages.
The Luke Mayor and Commissioners have again pledged their support of this celebration with Westernport allowing its town crew to assist in the set-up and removal of canopies for the festival.
Letters with information on the Homecoming were sent to former Luke residents where complete addresses were known. Those citizens currently residing in the town received similar letters hand-delivered by committee members.
A silent auction is being planned again for this year under the supervision of Frank McGreevy. Patty Wiltison is heading the theme basket project and it’s entitled “Tailgate Party.” Also, bingo for all ages and games for children are being planned.
New this year is a cake/cookies/candy walk. Vickie Lewis is heading up this activity and is seeking volunteers for pastry or candy donations. Baked goods should be brought to the Luke City Building the day of the homecoming.
Just in time for the annual celebration, the committee will be taking orders for Luke T-shirts. The white or gray T-shirts will bear a Luke logo. The individual’s name may also be embroidered on it, if desired. Prices range from $10 to $16 with orders being placed at the Luke City Building. Sample shirts are on display in the Luke Council Chamber. Orders will be taken until Thursday. For more information, call (301) 359-3074.
Bridgette Anderson was the winner of $150 from the 50/50 drawing.
